Indian, Asian Kingfisher This is probably the most popular beer served in Indian restaurants, the brewery being owned by one of the richest men in the world! Not only is this person totally incapable of conversing with his guests in a polite and decent manner, but moreover he has this attitude about him that seems to suggest that he is doing his customers a favour by letting them eat at his place!! Indian, Asian Prawn Puri This is a curry house classic where small prawns are cooked with a relatively hot sauce including chillis, ginger, curry paste, onions and to lighten it, a little cream. I had dinner here recently with my wife and 14-month old son and although this place described itself as 'family-friendly', when I arrived there I was told rather tersely and unsympathetically that they do not have or provide high chairs for small children. He needs to learn to talk and behave like the local people, especially those in Cornwall, who are amongst the most friendly in this country. As far as the food - I made the mistake of ordering the chicken tikka masala which was totally flavorless and bland.
Can be served as a lamb dish as well, but chicken is more popular. Spices used include chilli, garlic, cumin, coriander and ginger, creating a much stronger flavour and without the sweetness of coconut used in many dishes. If there is one name in Wadebridge which is synonymous with first rate Indian dining, it is The Raj. The worst part of my experience at this restaurant was the absolutely impolite and uncouth behaviour by the owner of this place, Mr.
Mild to medium heat and served with pilau rice and peshwari naan bread, you rarely see anything left on the plate!. To make things even worse, everything on the menu was overpriced I have eaten in popular upmarket Indian restaurants in London and the prices at The Raj were around the same! Bobby I had a very bad experience on my first and certainly the last! To me this came across as an absolutely nasty shock and being particularly rude. The Raj is a new contemporary restaurant, based in Wadebridge, Cornwall. Even the pappad and pickles that is served on arrival was charged at a ridiculous £3. The really cheeky thing about this 'pappad business' is that as soon as we sat at our table the waiter comes up to you and casually asks you 'how many pappads you would like'.
Our style is to blend the tried and tested dishes which are so loved by fans of Indian cuisine accross the world and yet we also want our customers to be pleasantly suprised by our chefs ability to utilise ingredients and spices that result in an extensive menu which is deliciously flavoursome and impressive. My wife had the lamb tikka which was quite flavorful - overall maybe 3 stars - not up to the standards you should expect at an Indian restaurant in England. I feel that this is a really cheeky and dishonest tactic because the general impression is that if something is priced rather high, then it must be good!! Service was pretty good, the staff friendly. Indian Lamb Madras A hotter, sharper dish, but very popular. The seafood we ordered was certainly not fresh and too much of colour and spices were used. Served off the bone, the chicken is cooked in a tandoor oven and then braised in a creamy, coconut sauce with a hint of tomatoes and masala spices. Moving on to the food, I have to say that not only was the food far from authentic Indian it was clearly Bangladeshi! Usually served with shredded lettuce, onion, cucumber and tomato and a tray of dips, including cucumber raita, mango and red hot lime pickle.
Add Mango chutney for a little more sweetness, or lime pickle which will blow your socks off! Accompany with deep fried onion bhajis, naan bread and cucumber and mint raita to cool you down!
